A recent visitor to the front yard. He was never the same again. I let the Milkweed thrive because it smells amazing, is a beautifully sculptural plant and brings cool little creatures to my place. Does anyone know if this is his ass or his face? ;)

I don't know, but I do know that caterpillars will devour milkweed and then turn into Monarch Butterflies. I don't know if that's a Monarch there, but it LOOKS like one. Maya paid $10 at the farmer's market once for a Monarch and a bunch of milkweed, and it was SO cool for her to watch it emerge from its cacoon one afternoon. The TV stayed off for hours while she was transfixed. ;)

J It is a monarch. I let it grow because Monarch habitat is being totally destroyed by the pesticides we still use. I don't even fertilze my lawn. I'm sort of anti grass, the less the better. It's very cool to watch all of these little things happening just outdside of the front door. And really my yard is not an embarrassment, it's kind of avant garde. Just call me Christo minus the material. ;)

Yeah, I had a thought that maybe you should enter that into a photo contest of some sort. My father in law won one once with a pic he submitted. He's from Wisconsin, too...is it something in the water?

J- It's in the cheese, in the cheese. Cheese is like a sedative for true Wisconsinites. If we don't get it, we get owly. Owly, I love that word. Thanks everyone, stay tuned for more amazing insect photos...

I love this photo. Gorgeous. Caterpillers are the ONLY
insect that I like. . besides butterflys and moths
(espescially Luna moths).
